Your Hospital in the heart of Your Community
Springfield hospital is delighted to translate the Springfield
vision of being Your hospital in the heart of Your community, by
being involved in the community and participation in events and
through sponsorship and raising funds for charities such as: Helen
Rollason and S.A.F.E (Supporting Aspergers Families in Essex) and
C.A.T.S (Cure & Action for Tay-Sachs).
CATS Foundation
Throughout 2012 the main charity Springfield supported was the
CATS Foundation.

Tay Sachs is a progressive neurological genetic disorder
which is usually terminal and most children with it do not usually
live past 5 or 6 years old.
We hosted multiple events throughout the year to raise the
profile of this charity and help it achieve its objectives.
The CATS Foundation has three main objectives - these are to
raise awareness of Tay-Sachs, support families affected by the
disease and to fund the research into a potential treatment for
Tay-Sachs.
To achieve these objectives the charity undertakes numerous fund
raising activities throughout the year where these are organised by
both the charity and members of the public. By holding these events
The CATS Foundation is able to not only raise money through
donations but also to raise awareness of Tay-Sachs. The charity
supports families by providing equipment which has not been made
available to them on the NHS. The CATS Foundation also provides a
support network of families affected by Tay-Sachs who can be
contacted.

Race4Life
Our staff have recently taken part in the Race4Life
to raise funds for breast cancer and were sponsored with kit and a
donation. The business office team attended North Weald and had a
very emotional day with each person having their own personal
thoughts for wanting to take part. Off went the runners in front
followed by the walkers behind. The 1st runner through the finish
line was at a time of 24 minutes, the Springfield team followed in
just over an hour to receive a well earned medal.
Well done to Ronnie, Janette, Maureen, Sarah, Penny, Marion,
Wendy, Charlotte and Cathy they raised a fantastic £829.00 for
Breast cancer.
In addition
Janette Boyd came to work in fancy dress as a nun as an extra fund
raising initiative and was sponsored by David Hewitt our General
manager to do so, on the day others also contributed to her effort
and it all went towards the total sum of £829.00. Well done
Janette.
American Independence Day - Funds raised:
On American Independence Day the management cooked an excellent
BBQ for the staff for donations to charity. Donations on the day
went to SAFE the Aspergers charity of which our Paediatric nurse
Gill Noble is a member and the sum of £50 was raised and presented
to Gill.
Funds were also raised for SAFE at the staff and consultant ball
this year when a further £530 was raised.
During the World Cup –
We held the Springfield world cup competition to guess who would
be the winning team the winner went home with £65 and the winner
was invited to choose which charity would receive 25% of the pot,
or £32.50. The winner choose Marie Curie Cancer Care to receive the
funds.
In May 2010 we launched our new Digital Mammography service with an
official ribbon cutting event by Dave Monk the BBC Essex DJ. The
new equipment is cutting edge technology which enables a much
clearer image to be produced of the breast and facilitates a more
accurate diagnosis.
In recognition of this event we purchase a new PC system for the
Helen Rollason centre for the benefit of patients and staff
alike.
A fund raising day for Little Haven Hospice was held in June
2010 when staff cooked sold and ate home made cakes, fund of over
£120 were raised.
