The Visonaire Story

New Knee replacement technology comes to Springfield private hospital. Springfield hospital is now using the latest technology and can offer to all insured or self pay patients the new: Visionaire - Patient Matched instrumentation for use in total knee replacement surgery. The Visionaire is technology that uses a patient's MRI and x-rays to build custom made surgical instrumentation for use with high performance knee implants, giving a bespoke service for the patient.

By using instruments designed from each patient's unique anatomical data, surgeons can match the unique shapes and angles of the joint while precisely aligning the implant. The disposable, patient-specific instruments help surgeons eliminate multiple steps and saves valuable time during knee replacement surgery, thus helping to decrease the risk of infection as well as the amount of time a patient is under anesthesia.

This powerful new technology can be used for patients suffering from advanced osteoarthritis of the knee.

Consultant surgeon Mr. Stephen Palmer is using this innovative technology and recently operated on two patients who agreed to share with us their stories.

Mr Edmund Hymas of Hatfield Peverel in Chelmsford aged 82 years said:

"I have had knee problems for the last year consisting of a terrible pain which stopped me doing the things that I love like - Golf and Ballroom dancing. It got to a stage when even walking was a real effort.  I have always been an active person so the impact on my life was severe.  I had the surgery 6 weeks ago now and as you can see I am now walking well with a stick and the pain has gone. This new system is fantastic and Mr Palmer explained to me how using the Visionaire system made for a precision fit and meant less time under anaesthetic - which for a man of my tender years is important. I am now looking forward to the future and to getting back onto the golf course"

Mr Colin Rogers of Witham aged 56 years says:

" In January of 2010 I injured my knee playing football, this snowballed into me being prevented from playing any sport due to the pain in my knee and its habit of giving way on me. This impacted into my work as well, as being up and down ladders as an electrician meant it was dangerous.

This new Visionaire system has been fantastic for me and has resulted in me being totally pain free after just two weeks and now 6 weeks later I am walking well and without a stick and can walk for 30-40 minutes at a time. I am looking forward to the future now and to being able to resume my sporting activities and it is thanks to surgeons like Mr Palmer who are striving to provide the most up to-date ways of doing surgery that I can face the future without pain and limitation. The Visionaire is patient specific and made to measure what else could you ask for?"
