Mr Sritharan S Kadirkamanathan PhD FRCS (Gen) - Consultant
General & Upper GI Surgeon
Sri qualified from medical school in1984. During his
undergraduate training he obtained first class in the second MBBS
and second upper class in the Final MBBS examination. He was also
awarded gold medals for anatomy; obstetrics and gynaecology.
His surgical training as a registrar was taken in Liverpool from
1989-1992. He then obtained a research fellow post at the Royal
London and St Bartholomew Hospital. During this period he performed
ground breaking research work on capsule Endoscopy and Endoluminal
surgery which resulted in several publications and numerous
international presentations. Following this he undertook Senior
Registrar training at London and North-East Thames Region.
He has worked in private practice at Springfield Hospital since
2003 as a general surgeon with a specialist expertise in surgery of
the upper gastro-intestinal tract (oesophagus, stomach and
duodenum) and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
His special interests include upper GI cancer surgery,
Laparoscopic and Endoscopic surgery of the oesophagus and stomach,
capsule Endoscopy, motility of the upper GI tract and Gastric
pacing/Gastric Electrical Stimulation therapy for
Gastroparesis.
He is one of a team of 3 surgeons in Chelmsford who operate on
patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer, and also operates out
of Broomfield hospital.
In 2007 together with Mr Mike Harvey, he helped set up the
weight loss surgery programme at Springfield Hospital. The Hospital
offers a multidisciplinary service for patients who have failed to
lose weight with diet and exercise regimes and can offer a variety
of surgical options which include gastric banding, sleeve
gastrectomy and gastric balloons.
Sri has undertaken many research projects and had his findings
published in many formats. He is an expert in the field of
Gastroenterology and believes that through providing a holistic and
research based treatment, such as Gastric banding, that peoples
lives can be radically improved in terms of both physical and
mental wellbeing.
