Bringing wellbeing to all staff at Springfield Hospital

Monday 21st May 2018

Following on from Mental Health Awareness Week, Senior sister Muriel Austin has a vision to bring general wellbeing to all the staff at Springfield Hospital.

“We bought the table tennis table to start a club where once a week people can meet and socialise, maybe have a weigh in and play a little bit of sport”

It goes without saying though that we had to have an official opening of the table and who better than General manager Stuart Emerson & Matron Nigel Haigh.

Friday lunchtime they both dressed in their sports kits and this looked serious! 3 rounds of 11 points each who would be crowned champion…..

Nigel took the 1st round 11-5, Stuart seemed to find his competitive edge in the 2nd round and beat Nigel 11- 7 and it was 1 each with the last game being the decider. After a few near misses with overzealous shots reaching the spectators, Nigel went on to beat Stuart 11-4,  who was gracious in his defeat. Well done Nigel.

Springfield Hospital supports staff wellbeing and actively promotes staff exerice and healthy eating, as well as social engagement and time away from the working environment for their staff to relax.
