Private GP Services at Springfield Hospital


The private GP service situated within Springfield hospital is staffed by seven GPs with over 93 years of experience in general medical practice between them. It is the largest private GP service in Essex and is CQC registered. 

They are:

They can offer same day appointments, be-spoke health assessments and a comprehensive travel medicine service including vaccinations, homeopathy, acupuncture and Flu vaccines. They have fast access for cross referrals to diagnostics investigations and to see Consultants. For more information see their website below.

Opening times are Monday to Friday each day, with late night opening till 8pm four nights a week.

Dr Anne Squire


Dr Anne Squire graduated with Honors from Leicester University Medical School in 1983. She undertook GP training in both the UK and the USA, working in the Midlands and at the University of Columbia in Missouri.

She has a strong interest in communicating effectively with patients. After a 14 year spell as a NHS GP, Anne established a private general practice in 2001 in Chelmsford with partner Dr Sibel Peck, with GP Dr Jo Josson McConnell joining them as a partner in April 2016.

Training Profile: Her medical training started in Leicester; she then worked for 2 years at a family practice residency in Missouri. She was elected Chief Resident in the family practice department in her final year of training, a post which had both teaching and administrative responsibilities.

She completed her British GP training in Norwich where she worked as a full time NHS GP for five years. She then moved to a NHS Practice in Chelmsford where she worked as a full time GP, and was the Postgraduate GP tutor for mid Essex. She also served as the Chair of the Essex Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners. 

Special interests: Dr Squire is interested in offering patient focused, unhurried and effective family medicine. With four children of her own, she is very aware of the particular health needs of women, especially those for whom work and family life exist in a degree of tension. In offering well woman screening services she aims to provide a tailored service to meet the needs of each woman as an individual, with empathy and understanding. Anne is a lay minister in the Church of England.

Dr Sibel Peck


Dr Sibel B Peck trained at St Bartholomew's Medical School, University of London and graduated in 1988.

She undertook GP training in Surrey, Leicestershire and New Zealand. Membership was gained to the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1993. After returning from New Zealand in 1994, Dr Peck worked as a GP locum in a variety of practices in London. She also worked for the British Pregnancy Advisory Service and gained an insight into the stresses attached to unwanted pregnancies. Sibel established a private general practice in 2001 in Chelmsford with partner Dr Anne Squire, with GP Dr Jo Josson-McConnell joining them as a partner in April 2016.

Training Profile: Her medical training began in Redhill, Surrey, where she worked in Casualty, Care of the elderly, Psychiatry, Obstetrics and Gynecology. She then moved to Northampton General Hospital and worked in Pediatrics.

ln Chelmsford she continued to work as a GP locum gaining further clinical experience.

Special Interests: Dr Peck is interested in offering patient focused family medicine. As a mother with three children, she appreciates the pressures on working mothers and the importance of their health needs. She is interested in all aspects of child health. Her primary goal is to practice medicine that allows the patient time to get their concerns across, and leave the consultation feeling that they have been listened to and their health needs met. She has a special interest in Acupuncture. Being from Turkish parents, Dr Peck is fluent in Turkish and is happy to consult in this language.

Dr Jo Josson McConnell:


Dr Jo Josson McConnell graduated with honours from st George's Hospital Medical School, University of London in 2003 and is currently part-time at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has worked in hospitals in London and Sydney and trained is General Practice at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Training Profile: Jo is comfortable consulting on all aspects of health and has specific training in paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, sexual health (male and female), psychiatry, emergency medicine and public health.  She has had committee roles at the Royal College of General Practitioners, has taught undergraduate medical students and has a Medical Research Council fellowship.

Special Interests:  Jo has an interest in mental health, women's/sexual health and musculoskeletal problems.  She has a strong ethos of being interested in patients lives and prides herself on being easy to talk to, putting patients at ease when discussing concerns about their health, or items of a personal nature.  She feels she can offer a personalised service to her patients which combines her communication skills with clinical experience and the most up to medical research.  Jo is married with her first child currently on the way.  She lives in Chelmsford, is a keen sportswoman and joined the practice in 2011.


Dr Justin Barkham


Dr Barkham graduated from St Thomas Hospital medical school in London in 1988. He started post graduate training in Medicine at Worthing Hospital before surgical training at Colchester Hospital. He  then undertook General Practice(VTS) training in the Colchester group of hospitals. This consisted of A&E, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Care of the Elderly.

Training Profile: He worked as GP registrar at the Mersea Road Surgery in Colchester. He went on to become a full time partner at Coggeshall surgery where he worked for 22 years. It was a 2 partner practice which means that He provided the full range of personal General Practice services

Special Interests: General medicine, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Care of the elderly, Dermatology and Men's health.

He believes in continuity of care and the importance of establishing a trusting relationship with patients. He is married with 2 children and lives locally.
