Mr Hammond is a Consultant General, Colorectal & Laparoscopic Surgeon based at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. His main interests include bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, anal conditions and hernias. Mr Hammond graduated from Liverpool University Medical School in 1998 and completed surgical training in 2012. During this time, he trained at St Mark's Hospital, London, a national and international referral centre for intestinal and colorectal disorders, and was awarded a nationally-appointed fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, which he undertook at Colchester University Hospital.During his training, Mr Hammond completed a research MD investigating the role of biomaterials in the management of parastomal hernias and anal fistulas. For this, he was awarded the Colon & Rectal Disease Research Foundation Prize by the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland (ACPGBI), and granted a travelling fellowship by the Coloproctology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine. Mr Hammond continues to enjoy publishing and presenting on his research areas of interest and has co-authored a number of book chapters. He has also been invited to review articles for The Lancet, British Journal of Surgery, Colorectal Disease, Techniques in Coloproctology and The International Journal of Surgery. Open & Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel and diverticular disease, and groin hernias. Mr Hammond has subspecialty interests in anal pathology, such as haemorrhoids and anal fistulas, and abdominal wall reconstruction for complex and recurrent hernias.
