3 Dimensional Mammography
We utilise state of the art technology with 3 Dimensional Mammography, being one of the only private hospitals in the whole of Essex to offer this.
The benefits of this are:
- More accurate detection: By minimizing the impact of overlapping breast tissue, 3D mammography can make a breast cancer easier to spot. Reviewing multiple images has helped doctors find more cancers than with 2D images alone.
- Earlier diagnosis: Overlapping tissue can hide small cancers in a 2D scan. However, with 3D mammography, the image “slices” can be analysed one by one. This means 3D mammography may help detect cancers earlier than conventional mammography.
- Better detection in dense breast tissue: Dense breast tissue, often found in younger women under 40, can cause shadows due to overlapping tissue, which hides breast cancers from traditional 2D mammography. 3D mammography takes images of the breast from multiple angles, thereby offering a cutting-edge look through and around breast tissue
Our breast clinics run 3 times per week with our 2 experienced Consultant Surgeons and we offer competitive packages for those ladies who wish to self-pay to attend the rapid diagnostic clinic, if they do not have private medical insurance accordingly.
For women presenting with a breast problem and who have been referred by their own GP or referred by the Private GP service also offered at Springfield; a “One-Stop” clinic is offered. This consists of an appointment with the Consultant, Digital mammography, further investigations if required and then a diagnostic consultation again with the breast Consultant. He will examine the findings and provide a diagnosis. This reduces waiting time for investigation results and can help alleviate extra anxiety at what can be an anxious time.
Support services are provided in the form of a Clinical nurse specialist in cancer care who can answer any questions and give help and practical support. For those who are non-symptomatic and over 40 years of age but who may wish to have a one off or regular screenings (repeat mammograms should not be performed within a year of each other) we can also offer a direct access private breast health screening service. To be eligible for this you must have NO breast problem symptoms and will be asked to answer some qualifying health questions to ensure that direct access is appropriate for you.
Subject to this, you are able to book a digital mammogram without a GP referral letter.
